Then came the incidents on lap 37, before Verstappen finally let Hamilton past six laps later, only to immediately overtake him again at the next corner. The race was immediately stopped once again for another collision and Verstappen was told to line up in third behind Esteban Ocon and Hamilton for the second restart. Rules kind of don’t apply, or they don’t think of the rules. “I’ve come across a lot of different characters and there’s a few at the top which are over the limit. “I’ve raced a lot of drivers through my life in the 28 years,” Hamilton told Sky Sports. Verstappen was handed a 10-second time penalty by stewards after the race after having already been hit with a five-second penalty during the grand prix for the incident that allowed him to get ahead of Hamilton earlier on lap 37. The pair came together on a number of occasions throughout the race, including one bizarre crash on lap 37 when Hamilton ran into the back of Verstappen, who was slowing down to allow his rival past after being told to concede first place due to an earlier racing incident. Nike did not respond to a request for comment.Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen’s rivalry continued to heat up on Sunday – both on and off the track – at an action-packed Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, as the Mercedes driver won his third consecutive race to go level on points with the Dutchman in the driver standings with one race remaining in the Formula One season. It does however note that Verstappen was granted a trademark to use the Max 1 name for services as Nike did not oppose that registration. Verstappen’s team attempted to counter, but the BOIP has ultimately sided with the Swoosh, blocking Verstappen from producing goods bearing the Max 1 name. “The defendant’s use of Max 1 is a means of arousing consumer interest in its own goods. This will lead to an unacceptable situation where the defendant is allowed to ‘piggyback’ on the opponent’s investments in the promotion and goodwill building of its brand,” Nike’s arguement reads. Per a Google translation of the filing, Nike argues that the names sound phonetically similar and that a potential “Max 1” line could confuse the public into thinking it is a variation of a Nike product without Air, among other points. Nike filed opposition in February 2022, citing the name’s similarities to its Air Max 1 sneaker. The BOIP, which handles trademarks in the Netherlands, filed on February 27 a decision on Nike’s opposition of Verstappen’s December 2021 attempt to trademark the name “Max 1” for a clothing brand. Top-ranked F1 driver Max Verstappen is looking to expand his brand with a new clothing line, but Nike successfully put a halt to one of his attempts last month.Ī report last week from Dutch newspaper De Limburger calls attention to a filing by the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP) last month.
